Sorry I’ve been MIA over the past few weeks. But hey, it’s August, so hopefully most of you are in vacay mode anyway. This summer I’ve been busy working on some BIG changes on the blog that I’m dying to share with you. The wheels started turning last spring during a quick jaunt to Paris with my best friend Lauren (also the person who encouraged me to start a blog in the first place). I was approaching my second full year of blogging regularly and was itching to bring some new energy to my website. After too many glasses of bubbly I pitched the idea to start a blog together that we would co-produce. Thus the idea for L. Avenue was born. Fast forward a few months and Lauren got an amazing work promotion which meant no free time for blogging. We were already in the design phase for L. Aveunue and I was really loving where things were going, so I decided to keep on keeping on and never look back. L. Avenue is happening and hopefully the amazing Lauren will contribute from time to time because she’s a riot and a beauty product junkie. In the meantime, I’m beyond excited to launch L. Avenue in September. What can you expect from the new blog? You’ll see new post ideas, new content, and a totally new look with more of the same fashion focus. And tidbits of travel, interiors, and motherhood mixed in. Stay tuned…
I’m beyond excited to be a host tonight’s Women of Wardrobe party at Tootsies benefiting Dress for Success Houston. I’m sure most of you have heard of Dress for Success, an amazing non-profit that provides professional attire, a network of support and career development to help disadvantaged women thrive in work and in life. I hope you’ll come and support the Houston chapter of Dress for Success at this fun fashion night out. Black Halo designer, Laurel Berman will be dishing about her fall 2014 line, which is awesome, awesome, awesome. I’ll have a chance to sit down with her for a few minutes to talk trends, careers, and find out who she’d invite to dinner if she could invite anyone in the world. If we miss you tonight, the interview will be on the blog later this week.
I don’t think we’re in Houston anymore. There is topography and a wrap over my shoulders in July. Yaay for Colorado! I would love to find a part-time summer only job in this great state. They actually cancelled our return flight back to Houston. No really, thank YOU United! Maybe this is a sign. Anyway, lets talk crop tops for a minute. I’ve toyed around with crop tops a lot lately. They are pretty hard to avoid since they’re uber trendy right now. I’m pretty gun-shy on baring any skin but just a little peak with a high waisted skirt seems to work. What do you think? Are you rocking crop tops this summer? I’m obsessed with this striped crop. I’d also wear it under a pair of white or denim overalls. Is there anything more summer than navy and white with a pop of bright pink?! I’ve had this high low skirt in my closet since before Easter and have worn it with everything from a blazer and button down to this summer crop. It definitely has dress up/dress down flexibility. Thank goodness slides are the new wedge this summer. These slides are on repeat in my summer get up. And as much as I’d love a pretty stack of bracelets with this outfit, I’m a one trick pony in the bracelet department these days. I’m into the edible bracelet trend AKA jewlrey Miss. C will enjoy using as a teething ring.

Ahh, back to school is upon us. As a kid, I was the nerd who actually looked forward to school starting. Shopping for new school supplies was up there with Christmas morning in my book. Which color trapper keeper to buy? Was I going to go with a trendy Troll lunchbox or a tried and true Barbie design? Since L.E. is hopefully a few years away from making these critical decisions herself, I’m going to indulge in some preschool shopping for her. Here are some of my favorite lunch boxes out there this year.
butterfly / ladybug / whale / fire truck *under $10 / scooby doo (because who doesn’t love a good throw back?!) / monogram
P.S. I also love this bento box idea and this Despicable Me box is perfect for your little minion.
During a blogging break the other night I discovered some denim amazingness from a new favorite website for trendy clothes at affordable prices. The matching top/shirt ensemble took me back to college days when I rocked a crocheted sleeveless top (that laced up the back, sorry Dad!) and looked like it could have been hand made by one of my boho-wannabe pals (you know who you are). It paired nicely with a matching woven mini skirt. Or so I convinced myself at the time. Well my new double denim ensemble is significantly more conservative, but makes me feel like I’m back in my 20′s again. This is definitely on the girls night out outfit rotation. I wore it to my best friends 31st birthday party and we acted the part to perfection. This number also proved to be concert ready paired with my Lucchese boots. These pieces could easily be worn separately too, I’d rock this v-neck with the skirt and love the top with jeans and slides.
outfit details: look 1: top & skirt / cuffs similar here / sandals *50% off / clutch / sunglasses // look 2: boots / bag
P.S. I’m also crushing hard on this tunic and this denim vest.
The sale of the year is here!
What’s on tap for the weekend, y’all? I’ll be shopping the Nordstrom anniversary sale during the babies’ nap time. These Rag & Bone booties are calling my name, and it’s hard to find these gems on sale. We have at least a few more months before the first cold front in Houston, but I’m dreaming of this wool cape when it finally drops to 65 degrees. Ha. But these boyfriend jeans are perfect for right now and this Chloe bag is perfect for every season too. I’m having a moment with rose gold and this Michel Kors watch is the best price I’ve seen. This timeless wrap dress is perfect for the office but would look great with booties on the weekend. Oh, and don’t forget something for the kids and the hubs. This jacket for him and school shoes for LE. Happy weekend!!
If Dior says so….
I’ve had my eye on these gorgeous Dior pearl resin studs for months. And lo and behold, Bauble Bar delivers this designer look in pearl, pave, metallic and rainbow colors, for as little as $18!
My girl Lupita approves, so how can you NOT jump on board this earring trend?!
What do y’all think of my new studs? At first, I felt a bit rocker/goth in these gems, but after a few wears, I’m liking them with pretty much anything I throw on…
July 4, 2012: LE with her twin cousins. The babies are clearly thrilled to pose for a photo
July 4, 2013: Family photo + a bun in the oven….
July 4, 2014: Sisters…
Life is so fast. I mean, look at how much has changed in Miss LE’s life in a couple of years. This time last year, she was just figuring out walking and could say 5 words. A year later she’s singing Frozen songs form start to finish and repeating every word we say. Full on parrot mode. What a blessing, these 2 sweet babies in 3 years of marriage. At the same time my heart missed my Mom this Fourth of July. It was always her favorite holiday. I have such vivid childhood memories of she and I picking out our favorite fireworks together, clapping and cheering more with every last illuminated blast of color in the sky. Well the Z fam didn’t see any fireworks this year. After hosting a BBQ at our house the bambinos were totally maxed out on fun with a few hours of daylight to spare. There are lots of fireworks shows in our future though and I’ll think of my Mom when I get to watch with my two sweet little girls in my lap.

C was the easiest to photograph, since she’s not yet on the move like her big sister…
And a few photos of the party food/decor
I love everything about Santa Barbara. It really is my happy place. We spent a little over a week there last month and it was absolute bliss. The kids did really well traveling and we met up with friends and family which makes vacationing that much more fun. This place is kid heaven. The beach, the zoo, free fruit and balloon animals at the Farmer’s Market just to name a few of the activities on repeat while we are there. And adult heaven too. Think wine country, hikes with views of the mountains and golf with the Pacific ocean as your water hazard. I also love how relaxed the street style is in Santa Barbara. Women here do comfortable chic better than anywhere else I’ve ever been. I dig high heels as much as the next shoe enthusiast, but urge you to leave yours at home when you vacation here….
Outfit details: found at Diani boutique, also here online, / shorts, old but similar here and here / sandals, sold out online, similar here, also love these / bracelet / skinny cuff / letter necklace also found at Kuhl-Linscomb / earrings, found at Diani boutique in Santa Barbara, similar here / backpack / sunglasses
P.S. I can’t believe I failed to mention the amazing shopping in the “adult heaven” description earlier. Diani boutique, Dressed and K. Frank to name a few of my faves….
